Dash
2012 - 2025
Dash was the dog I wasn’t supposed to get. Gary said I could get a dog but no dashaunds or chihuahuas. Enter Dash. He was both in addition to papillion and terrier. He came from a rescue.
He’d been ran over and had two femoral head pinnings so no hip sockets. Walked a bit like a peg legged pirate. 🤣. He was my “lap dog “ in retirement.
Dash was the sweetest dog. Mild mannered and loved children. But you never gave him a treat by hand. He’d snap your fingers off in a minute. Completely food driven he was obsessed with anything you were eating. Or garbage We had to keep all of ours in cabinets
About 2 years ago Dash developed Cushings Disease. He lost all his body hair. And became pot bellied. Still sweet and even more obsessed with food. I once took him to the vet because he was so bloated and when they took X-rays he was completely full of kibble. I learned he had snuck into the dog food and eaten a huge amt.
The Cushings ravished Dash’s immune system. Chronic UTIs. No matter how we adjusted his medication his Cushings levels did not budge. Then he developed high blood pressure and protein spilling in his urine. All of this put him at risk for blood clots.
Dash was always happy and always hungry. So when he didn’t get up on Friday and didn’t want to eat I knew it was serious. We took him to Dove Lewis where he was put into ICU thinking he had pneumonia The vet called me today and said she was fairly sure he had blood clots in his lungs. So we had to do right by Dash and let him go 😭
Dash—you were the best boy ever and I will truly miss you ❤️
